Case Study / Case Study 03
Leading with Greater Clarity
Profile
A professional who had recently taken on greater responsibility and was experiencing communication difficulties within a team.
Starting Point
The client was highly committed and wanted work to be completed correctly. Under pressure, however, instructions became increasingly detailed and controlling.
Team members appeared less engaged, and the client responded by becoming even more involved. This created a cycle of frustration, reduced trust and excessive personal workload.

Coaching Objective
To clarify the client's
leadership posture
improve
communication
delegate
more effectively
build greater responsibility
within the team.

Approach
The coaching process examined real workplace situations rather than discussing leadership only in theory.
The client explored:
- What happened internally when another person worked differently
- The difference between clear expectations and excessive control
- Which decisions required involvement and which could be delegated
- How instructions were communicated
- Whether team members had enough context, authority and feedback
- How to address mistakes without removing responsibility from others
Development
During the Process
The client practised structuring communication around four elements:
- 1. The expected result
- 2. The reason it mattered
- 3. The boundaries or non-negotiable requirements
- 4. The space available for the employee to decide how to proceed

The coaching also focused on tolerating the temporary discomfort that can accompany delegation.

Representative Shift
The client began to ask more questions before giving solutions and clarified expected outcomes more precisely. Team conversations became less reactive, and the client identified tasks that did not require personal control.

Key Learning
Clear leadership does not mean making every decision. It means creating enough direction, trust and responsibility for others to contribute effectively.
